Homestays are carefully selected and offer students the opportunity to learn more about the local culture in a comfortable setting while studying English in Honolulu. These homes are often between 30 - 65 minutes away from the school by public transport. Families usually offer affordable meal plans that allow you to sample the local cuisine. If you have special requests or diet restrictions (because of religion or health reasons), please let us know in advance. You must check out 1 day after your classes end (usually a Saturday). Our English Intensive Course is an integrated ESL course that combines Conversation, Grammar, Listening, Pronunciation, Reading, and Writing. It consists of 4 hours of instruction a day, from Monday through Thursday, for a total of 16 hours a week. Classes are typically held from 9:00 am to 12:50 pm, but may also be held from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm depending on student enrollment.
Students are placed in one of 6 English levels – each level taking 12 weeks to complete – after an oral and/or written placement test conducted prior to the start of their course. Students must register for a minimum of one week and may start their course on any Monday.
Intensive classes are taught by the same teacher every day, which allows them to get to know their students well and help them with their individual language needs. Students in this course must be at least 16 years of age.
