Avenue English
The General English course is for students who wish to improve their current level of English in a group environment. The focus is on fluency and highlights the practical understanding of English through the four main skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening. The course materials used encourage interactive participation so that all students build confidence in a relaxed environment.
Students receive a Certificate of Attendance for all courses less than 7 weeks and a certificate of Achievement for 8 weeks +.
The General English course can be booked for a minimum of 2 weeks and can be started on any Monday.

Avenue English Cape Town provides high-quality English instruction delivered by experienced and motivated mother-tongue teachers. The school is centrally located at 2nd Floor, 5 Hudson Street in De Waterkant, Cape Town, a stylish and cosmopolitan neighbourhood just minutes from the V&A Waterfront, Green Point and the Atlantic Seaboard. Its position in De Waterkant places students within easy walking distance of cafés, restaurants, galleries and transport links, making it an excellent base for both study and city life. The area’s vibrant, safe and multicultural environment means students often practise English not only in class but in everyday interactions around Cape Town.

The campus offers bright, modern, and comfortable spaces designed to support learning and socialising. Classrooms are air-conditioned and well-equipped, with modern teaching materials and access to free Wi-Fi. The school also features an outdoor terrace area where students can relax, chat with classmates and practise English in informal settings. Additionally, Avenue English provides a welcoming student environment, with regular social activities that help students connect and use English outside the classroom in real-world situations.
The nationality and age mix at Avenue English varies over different time periods, courses and levels. Throughout the year, the average age is 25. In the summer, the average age is 18.

Homestays are carefully selected and offer students the opportunity to learn more about the local culture in a comfortable setting while studying English in Cape Town. These homes are often between 10 - 15 minutes away from the school by public transport. Families usually offer affordable meal plans that allow you to sample the local cuisine. If you have special requests or diet restrictions (because of religion or health reasons), please let us know in advance. We cannot apply for visas on behalf of students. However, the school can supply you with all the documentation you need to support your visa application.
Your letter of acceptance will be sent to your home address by regular mail at no charge to you. If you wish to receive your paperwork by express mail, you will be charged R 300 when you register.
