"I've met some awesome people."

Anna Alig, student from Afghanistan

My teacher was great (Jocelyne), but in the next level we (level 5,6,7) were like put together and we didn't learn much. It wasn't the fault of the teacher, because he tried it really hard to make it work. So I was a little bit disappointed the last two weeks...My homestay was (for me) ok, I didn't talk much to my host-mother, because she was living in the other half of the house. So I didn't learn much of French at home. But like I said for me it was good, because I had my freedom. But I also think, that it isn't a very good idea to put people under 18 years in this homestay, because you literally live on your own. The location is ok, it isn't central, but it's close to the metro.

"It was a great experience since first day. Short, however, great!"

Lucilene Correia, student from Brazil

I came to Montreal to check a school to study French in the nearly future, and I can assure that my experience at Miila was great. The teachers, besides being competent are very friendly. Love specially the Conversation class teacher, he is a gentleman. The school location is OK considering that the transport systems work really well. As for the facilities, the school has very good facilities with clean and comfortable classrooms and kitchen and labs, and so on. The activities I took part in were the 'Club Classes', where I could have some extra conversation exercises, reading and listenin', I recommend these extra activities 'cause they work as a complement and the teacher can help almost individually.
The residence Guylaine Hudon is very comfortable and the location is awesome! Loved the house and the welcome reception.
If I need to say something I missed, is more extra activities with other students provided by the school after class or on weekend...

"It was okay."

Chantal Vinette, student from Canada

I enjoyed the students effect and the school atmosphere, the two teachers I had were well qualified. On the other hand a month is a little short and I would have liked more sustained courses in the amount of time. I think that fstrategy was not really adapted.

ADI ECKER, student from Israel

The teachers for French in MIILA are what make the school so good. You couldn't ask for better teachers! The location of the school is also really good and it's close to two metro stations and Rue Sainte-Catherine which is right in centre-ville.

Dear Adi,

Thank you very much for such a positive feedback! The teachers were very glad to know about that!

All the best!

"Educational"

Jeanett Behrndtz Jørgensen, student from Denmark

My overall stay in Montréal was amazing! MIILA itself is not very good. The school in general was very old and not maintained, the classrooms were outdated, not climatised and very small but that aside I learned a lot. The teachers were good in general but each teacher had his or her own personal style and way of teaching and it could be hard to transfer from one teacher to another. As a student you had a great influence on the teaching and what you wanted to learn or revise and that was great. All students are supposed to be on the same level in the classes, but it is very different what one already knows grammar-wise, etc.
The atmosphere at MIILA was very friendly and people are willing to help you with whatever. There are a lot of activities and things to participate in, both in Montréal and in Canada and the USA.

Alejandra Montserrat Perez Ortega

I studied English & French at MIILA for 6 months after I started my university studies in Montreal. Today, five years later, I can say that I became a Montrealean.
I would not be the person I am if I had not had the opportunity to study at Montreal, MIILA.
Thanks to MIILA, I speak English and French perfectly.

Hola Alejandra,

"We feel like at home!"

FERNANDA DE SOUZA LEÃO

It's a really nice school, small and comfortable ready to make us feel at home.
The classes with 8 people give us more attention from the teachers and we can learn much more.
The location is perfect, 2 min walking from the principal street in Montreal, Saint Catherine.
Because I went during the summer, we had a lot of activities inside and outside.
I most recommend this school for teenagers. Either way, I got to make a lot of friends and I had really good moments there.

Thank you very much for your comments.. We are so happy to know that you liked our school and we seek to see you again here.Probably next winter?

Have a wonderful day.

All the best.

"Friendly teachers at a small school in a great location."

Sophie Kerr

As the school is quite small it had a really friendly atmosphere and the staff made you feel welcomed and at home. I chose to stay in a Student Residence and the woman who owned the building was also really lovely and took care to make sure all the students staying in the flat were happy.

The school is very centrally located in very easy walking distance of 2 metro stations. It makes it really easy to explore the city in the afternoons after classes have ended and the OPUS card/pass is also good value.

Although I was only in Montreal for 3 weeks I really enjoyed my stay and would happily return to MIILA in the future.

Dear Sophie,

Thank you for choosing MIILA.

It was a real pleasure to meet you. We really appreciate your comments and we still looking forward to see you again.

Our best wishes.

"Miila is the great place to learn or improve English or French because of its dowtwn location, its implicated staff and all activities you can practice after your lessons!"

CISSE Mariame

Studying English at Miila school was for me THE EXPERIENCE for the last summertime. My progamm was the 4 weeks intensive one, and the lessons and the tools used by the teacher were really adapted and helpful. When you enter the school until you leave it, as a student you are not allowed to use another language except the one you have chosen to learn. That is a very good training to speak fluently and to become more spontaneous in the English speaking. The teacher was very patient and gave us many new tools and exercises to have a better knowledge of specific vocabulary and grammar. I also really appreciated the human contacts with all MIILA's staff who is very available for any need or question, and with the other students. I recommend Miila school to anyone who plans to study in a language school in Montreal, because you will have a high quality level in education as well as great extra activities to have fun and to discover wonderful places in Montreal and around. Last, but not least it is a good opportunity to meet new people from other cultures. I wish I had more time to subscribe for a higher levels...it will be maybe for next year. Good job Miila...

"I don't want it to finish!"

Leticia Gabriele Palmero de Almeida

I had my first experience with MIILA in 2012 when I came for only 1 month for Summer camp. It was very nice; everything was new and beautiful for me. There were students from different cultures studying together and doing a lot of activities. As it was my first time out of my country, I was a bit afraid of this experience, but as soon as I arrived, MIILA made me feel a part of the family. Everybody who works there is very kind, attentive and friendly. I stayed in a homestay, and the family was really nice to me and to other international students. I was able to improve my English and have fun.
Well, I liked it so much that I came back this year, but now to study French and for a longer period of time.

The teachers at MIILA are really qualified and friendly, what makes it easier to learn a new language. The MIILA’s team is amazing; they are always there to help us. One great quality of the school is its location: in downtown area close to all good restaurants, stores, shopping malls and public transportation.

As I said, I am staying for a longer period this time and I live on my own, which let me see that Montreal is a great modern city full of values, secure and clean. There are always a lot of activities organized in the city, and the people are very polite. Every day I discover something new, and I love it more and more being here. So I have already decided that I won't stop: my next step is work and study program.

MIILA is small school but they make you feel at home!
It is close to downtown and Metro station so the location is pretty good.
Teachers are helping us a lot! One of my teachers found our weak point of English and she gave us some practice for each student! It was very helpful! Also the students are friendly. Everyday class is dynamic!!

"The teachers were really nice but the way the school managed them was not so much!"

Marcelo Cantos Correa, student from Brazil

Studying there was really nice, our (my wife's and my) teacher was an excellent teacher. He definitely knows how to teach.
A lot of games and outside classes (those were the best).
Otherwise, the school's manager was not so good. All the time new students came to join our class. Some of them were in different levels (lower level). That made it really difficult to keep the class flowing.

But... as I said... the teachers made it worth it.

Was this helpful? Yes

"The student will pay by their own because at the moment CADIVI is not approving many application for students. So the student wants to pay the course using CADIVI viajero, so that he can use part of the money that he will receive for his trip to pay part of the course. Usually we ask the Venezuelan students the registration fee and the placement accommodation fee in order to issue the letter of acceptance, once they receive the visa, the first 4 weeks of accommodation must be paid in order to receive the accommodation confirmation. In this case she will need to pay the full amount before arrival because she will take 4 weeks course. She can pay the course once in the school."

Since the student will not use the CADIVI for students, she can pay only the registration and accommodation fees in order to register. Once she gets the visa it will be necessary to pay the 4 weeks of accommodation. The rest of the payment could be made once she arrives in Montreal.

"I don't mind sending the letter of acceptance by courier and including the cost of accommodation in the course price. However, I also have a question: Will he pay for sending the letter by courier beforehand? How does it usually work? can you help the student get his insurance."

Greg Pankow, Step by Step Proficiency school representative

I can provide him with my banking information, so he can deposit mailing fees in my account. I can also send the letter by email, that way he will get it faster and he will avoid paying mailing fees. On the other hand, I will avoid going to the post office. This is what I usually do, I send letters of acceptance by email. I can help the student get his insurance.

"I have a prospective student from Venezuela who would like to book the "COOP PROGRAM - INTERNSHIP - ENGLISH" at Montreal International Institute of Language Arts. The student's level is "beginner" and is below the minimum required level of "intermediate" required to join the course below. Can you make an exception and accept our student into the program? Alternatively, do you have a placement test that we can ask the student to fill out to accurately determine his level?"

RAFAEL LOPEZ, Montreal International Institute of Language Arts school representative

We can make an exception but please advise the student to take a Language course before arriving, this way, she will not have problem to start the internship. Sometimes the employer could cancel the student internship when the level is not good enough. Finally, she request a 1 year program, the best case will be to apply for a 48 weeks program.

"I have 2 prospective students from Mexico who would like to study at Montreal International Institute of Language Arts. The students are interested in staying during 8 weeks. Would that be possible?"

It turns out that we can only offer the winter camp package (with the activities included) in December, January and February. However, we’ll be glad to offer your students the regular course with the possibility of paying for the activities proposed by our Activity Coordinator separately, with the other students.

"I have a prospective student from Colombia who would like to study at Montreal International Institute of Language Arts. The student is traveling with her daughter, who starts her studies at the University. Could both of them stay together in the apartment only the first five days? On 8th January her daughter will move to her Students Residence."

RAFAEL LOPEZ, Montreal International Institute of Language Arts school representative

No problem, they can stay in the same apartment

"What remark do you have about the materials"

Nathalie Fillon, student from France

The only remark is that the material fee is an approximate price, as it may vary according to the student's level. That's why it is recommended that the students buy the book after their first or second day at the school. The students are required to purchase the material only once per session.

"I am aware of the changes regarding these coop programs in Canada but I wanted to confirm it with you because this student has Canadian citizenship. But if the program is not going to exist anymore then, there is no more doubts. On the other hand, due to these changes we know that only some schools will be able to issue student permits. I wanted to ask you if your school is designated to issue student permits from now on?"

RAFAEL LOPEZ, Montreal International Institute of Language Arts school representative

The Canadian citizenships cannot take the COOP program because this program is only offered for international students. In that case, the best will be to take just the regular English course. Unfortunately, we do not know yet who will be the designated schools. We have to wait until the next week. We will inform you as soon as we confirm this information.

"I have a new prospective student from Venezuela who would like to study at Montreal International Institute of Language Arts. The student is going with his wife and his baby. They were looking at the accommodation options and wanted to know about the possibility of the furnished studio you offer. Would it be possible to rent it for the 3 of them? How much would it cost in total? Would they have to share the apartment with someone , bathroom or kitchen?"

RAFAEL LOPEZ, Montreal International Institute of Language Arts school representative

Do not worry, the furnished studios are not shared with other students. But I definitively recommend them the junior studio or the apartment with 2 bedrooms because the Studio - Single-person is too small for 3 people.

"What course will you recommend since my student did not request accommodation?"

Dyan Test, student from USA

Since the student did not request accommodation, we would definitively recommend her just to take the Intensive course.

"I have a prospective student from Venezuela who would like to study at Step by Step Proficiency. As you might be aware of, the student is from Venezuela and needs to apply to CADIVI in order to pay for this course. For that, the student would need to receive by courier mail the letter of acceptance, invoice with breakdown of the price, and class schedule. Nevertheless, the recent changes in the CADIVI policy has made more complicated for the students to make the payment for the housing of the course, would it be possible to add the price of the housing to the price of the course, so it's shown as only one item for the invoice that the student has to present to CADIVI? Can you prepare the documents like this? Normally we offer the Language International insurance for our students. But for student from Venezuela who have to apply to CADIVI, is not possible to pay it through our website. Do you offer your own health insurance to add it in the invoice of the student?"

"I have a prospective student who would like to study at Montreal International Institute of Language Arts. This student is from Venezuela. She can't pay the course from Venezuela, I have asked her to pay the registration fee and first week accommodation in order to book the course, and once she is at the school, the first day, she will pay the course directly there. Is that possible?"

RAFAEL LOPEZ, Montreal International Institute of Language Arts school representative

As you might know it is different to work with Venezuelan students. In case the students pays the course by their own you can always use the price list that you have but in case they decide to pay through their government (CADIVI) the payment must be made in USD$ Usually we ask the Venezuelan students the registration fee and the placement accommodation fee in order to issue the letter of acceptance, once that they receive the visa, the first 4 weeks of accommodation must be paid in order to receive the accommodation confirmation. In this case she will need to pay the full amount before arrival because she will take 4 weeks course. She can pay the course once in the school.
